The preamp sounds rich, articulate and versatile. You can get both modern active feel while with some tweaking with the onboard eq, you can recreate the tone of jazz bass as well. The slap tone sounds blissful, clean, articulate and bright. I recieved the bass in quite a good condition. It was ready to play out of the box. The action was perfect. I didn't do any set up and yet the playability of the bass seems great, just as my liking. I recommend to buy the bass if you want to have a Sterling Ray34 level quality at such an affordable price
