My first amp was a hybrid Bugera amp. Great for beginners but as I progressed as a guitarist and started jamming with musicians and playing gigs my search for a quality tone began. The gain on my Bugera was unappealing to say the least and most solid state amps I played on were trash. No warmth, distortion was harsh and unclear and pathetic sustain. All these problems vanished in thin air when I bought this small little HT-1. The warmth and sweetness from the amp blew me away. Even for a 1 watt it does brilliant cleans. The distortion is just wonderful with a lot of clarity, warmth and smoothness. A very professional like tone to me. And a very important point I must add is that this amp is LOUD! I am not saying it will be heard in a huge outdoor stadium but it can easily shake your apartment. In my room I have never turned the volume knob more than a quarter. When miced it can be used for small gigs in pubs or auditoriums.Coming to a few cons, the EQ knob is not too versatile. Basically it goes from bright to a more muffled tone when turned left to right. Also, I find it hard to get a mild crunchy tone with not much gain. Its either extremely clean or a high gain rock tone. So to conclude the Blackstar HT-1 is an extremely portable, warm sounding affordable amp and is perfect for home use. A wonderful introduction to tube amps. To be honest I would have gone for the Vox AC4 TV but since it was not available I got this instead. No regrets though. Happy that this is my first tube amp. Looks great as well. Lovely finish and pretty leather handle. To all those still confused between solid states and tube amps, give this amp a shot and trust me you WILL understand why every legendary guitarist gigs with a tube amp.
