This is the story of BLAKC. BLAKC is a band from Mumbai made up of five very unique, talented individuals. They are (in no order of importance) Shawn Pereira, Shishir Thakur, Roop Thomas, Rein Dias and Anish Menon. Before we get to know them better, let’s see how BLAKC was first formed.

In early 2006, Shawn was a fun-loving college-going kid. His priorities in life were to attend as little college as possible while meeting as many women as possible. He decided the way to go was to be a rockstar. Enter Anish, another fun-loving, college-going kid. He wanted to be a high flying guy in the corporate world. So much so that he actually turned up for one of BLAKC’s gigs at a later time in a suit, and then left without playing. But he too wanted to be a rockstar. They made a lot more money and did a lot less to earn it. Anyway, Anish met Shawn and concluded that they might just have something in common. So they got together with Gaurav and Vishwanath (who then formed Red Cube after they left BLAKC) and Sylvester, Shawn’s guitarist-friend. They jammed for a week, entered into a competition under the supposedly temporary name of BLAKC and came third in a college competition and the name stuck.

Towards the end of 2006, Gaurav and Nath were replaced by Roop and Shishir and BLAKC started composing its own music. In February 2007, Reinhardt replaced Sylvester and the lineup was complete. BLAKC went on to win a local college competition and that’s where it all began.

In the past three years that BLAKC has been around with its present lineup, they participated in a lot of local college competitions. After making it to the finals of both IRock and Campus Rock, they graduated to opening and headlining shows in Mumbai as well as other cities. Today BLAKC has played over eighty shows across 14 cities in India.

BLAKC released their debut album 'Choking On A Dream' in December 2008. The album DID NOT sell out like crazy :) but the general consensus (fans and critics alike) is that BLAKC is definitely a band to watch out for. Lucky enough to sell around 700 cds. The band is currently writing new music for their second album and has no plans to allow life as such to disrupt the crazy life they are living.

“BLAKC has always been about two things, the music and the people. We believe that our music is an extension of our personalities and the only way to connect to so many music lovers. Off stage we are weird; on stage we can tear a place apart purely because of the energy we have. BLAKC since its beginning has been unable to fit into genres, we stopped trying and stuck to doing what we loved doing more than any other which is making our own music. We each have such various influences that every song has multiple personalities. We love what we do and we love that you like us enough to have read this. Winners of Rolling Stone Metal Awards 2011 Best Band and Best Song - Popular Choice, this band is particularly known for their immensely energetic and aggressive live performances.
